The month of March was named after the Roman god Mars, who was held in high regard. March originally was the first month of the Roman year.
Women's History Month recognizes women of all races, ages, cultures, ethnic traditions and ways of life who have participated in history by living and sharing their lives with others. And by so doing, have contributed to our shared history.

March 7... Vasaloppet - Sweden: the beginning of freedom from Danish rule for Sweden is recognized by this event which took place in 1520. The man responsible was a 24 year old noble named Gustav. When the Danes were driven out, he was elected King Gustav 1 Vasa. Today the event is remembered by a 53 mile ski contest.
March 8 ... International Women's Day commemorates the 1908 women's march in New York City for sufferage and against child labor. Commemorated at the United Nations and designated in many countries as a national holiday, it represents at least nine decades of struggle for equality, justice, peace and developement.
March 10... Harriet Tubman Day - USA: commemorates the 1913 death of Harriet Tubman, a black aboltionist born into slavery. Tubman escaped to the North in 1844 and helped other slaves to freedom with the Underground Railroad

Celebrated throughout the world. St. Patrick used the three leafed shamrock to explain the Holy Trinity: God the Father, Jesus the Son and the Holy Spirit are one. People in Ireland celebrate this day by wearing a shamrock.

The Prince was instrumental in the protection of the rights and traditional ways of the Hawaiian people.
